EYFS & KS1 4 to 7 yr:
These sessions are similar to our pre-school classes although the activities are designed to appeal to this older age group. The emphasis of these sessions is on learning through play. Through songs, rhymes, games, puppets, signing, craft, drama and books the children effortlessly learn French and have FUN! This structured course of weekly classes contains new, as well as familiar, language and activities in order to maximize learning and confidence. Topics include greetings, colours, counting, family, likes and dislikes, animals, weather, seasons, clothing, parts of the body and food. The sessions provide an excellent foundation in French and to meeting the objectives laid out in the KS2 National Languages Strategy. In no time at all children should:
Develop a positive attitude to language learning and different cultures
Develop French listening and speaking skills: recite French songs, sounds and words and use simple phrases
Understand and respond to simple phrases and questions in French
Develop imagination as well as listening, communication and inter-personal skills.
Make new friends and have fun!
The majority of the session is conducted in French but by using structure, repetition, signing, props, and pictures children easily understand and respond spontaneously in French. The children also have the opportunity to perform a French play at the end of each term.
